Suntwine’s “Yoga & Reiki” class is coming back to Stratford!

After a successful two-year run at the Yoga Chapple’s St. Marys centre (big thanks and lots of love to the Chapple sisters!), Suntwine’s “Yoga and Reiki” is coming back to Stratford.

Several years ago, Lisa Stacey combined her expertise as a certified yoga instructor and as a Reiki Master to create a yoga experience that integrates the energy work of Reiki.

It’s Like Deja vu all over again…

Happy New Year Lovebugs!

My last blog post was almost exactly one year ago, and it was giving you the same message as I am telling you today.

Due to the recent government announcement, I will not be teaching in the studios until further notice.

I will be switching over to Zoom and Facebook Live until I get the green light to resume in-person classes.

I know we’re all sick of Zoom, but it’s important to keep your yoga practice going.

I hope you will join me online until we meet in person again.

Same as last time around, I will be offering live classes during the same timeslots as my usual (non-COVID) weekly sessions.

Tuesdays:

Suntwine Awaken (Yoga Collective via Facebook Live) 10:45am-11:45am

Suntwine Unwind (Yoga Collective via Facebook Live) 7:00pm-8:00pm

Wednesdays:

Suntwine Yoga (e mail [email protected] for Zoom link) 10:00am-11:00am

Fridays:

Suntwine Yoga (e mail [email protected] for Zoom link) 10:00am-11:00am

For the Facebook Live classes, the suggested e-transfer for enjoying the class is $10 (please send e-transfers to [email protected]). Note: If you can’t tune in live you can also replay these sessions by finding it on the Suntwine Yoga Facebook feed.

For the Zoom classes, please email me at [email protected] for the link and for payment options.

A New Year Begins!

Well, we had a good little run there…

For a few months, anyways, we were able practice yoga together in person.

Now it’s back into lockdown until further notice, but not to worry – we’re practically pros at this isolation thing by now, right?

Over the last lockdown period I hope you all had the chance to tune in to my live stream yoga classes on Facebook/Instagram Live.

This time around, I will be offering live classes during the exact same timeslots as my usual (non-COVID) weekly sessions.

Tuesdays:

Suntwine Awaken (Yoga Collective via Facebook Live) 10:45am-11:45am

Suntwine Unwind (Yoga Collective via Facebook Live) 7:15pm-8:15am

Suntwine’s Summer Yoga Schedule

Enjoy classes in person or via video

It’s hard to believe, but it’s finally summer!

And along with the changes in the weather, we’re all rolling with the changes necessary to safely transition out of the COVID precautions.

This summer my class schedule is a little different than it’s been in the past.

Rather than setting fixed locations for each weekly session, I am just setting up times for the sessions.

I’m asking participants to message me to sign up for the limited spots in each class (see contact info below or here).

When you registered I will provide you with the specific location (classes will always take place at outdoor locations in Stratford).

If you can’t make it out in person, you can enjoy the live streams of these classes on Facebook Live or Instagram Live.

Here are the summer classes:

Tuesdays @ 10:45 am

Tuesdays @ 7:00 pm

Wednesdays @ 10 am

Fridays @ 10 am

As of this posting (July 12, 2020) in-person classes will be restricted to 9 participants.

All social distancing precautions will be followed, but masks are not mandatory for these outdoor classes.

In-person outdoor class fee = $15 (Message ahead to book your spot)

Facebook & Instagram Live fee = $10 (e-transfer to [email protected])

Backyard Yoga with the Kids (and Pets!)

Last week, my son’s teacher asked if I could post an online yoga session for the class to do while school was on hiatus.

Teachers recognize better than anyone the positive effect yoga has on young people in classroom settings.

A lot of people (young or otherwise) are suffering from “cabin fever” right now.

My sons and I went out to our back garden and shot a Family Yoga video to help everyone feel calm, healthy and strong.

Our pug Clementine and our cat Mimi make cameo appearances – see if you can spot them!

My family hopes everyone is staying safe and healthy.

If you enjoyed the video let us know in the comments!

Less Is More: Slow Flow Yoga

Although we’re all living in challenging times, for many of us the Social Distancing experience has offered a rare opportunity to slow life down.

Rather than the usual daily avalanche of tasks, interactions, and sensory stimuli from every direction, we’re able to take a deep breath, close our eyes and enjoy… silence.

In this spirit, today I’m sharing a ten-minute Suntwine Slow Flow yoga video.

Don’t worry – my microphone volume isn’t muted!

I lead the session without talking.

Rather than listening to my voice for instruction, follow along with my motions on the video.

If you’d like to close your eyes during the session, you can improvise your own movements.

Sometimes, less is more.

If you enjoyed this slow, non-vocal session, please share your experience in the comments below!

Yoga Boogie Collab with my Brother!

Colin Fisher’s improvised music intertwines with my Suntwine yoga dance flow!

My brother Colin Fisher is a musician who’s been playing one-of-a-kind performances within the Toronto free jazz/improvisation scene (and beyond!) for decades.

It’s been a while since we’ve done anything together, so we decided to join forces for a video!

The crew at the Yoga Chapple produced the mesmerizing video above using real studio lighting (no filters here!).

Colin improvised the soundtrack while watching my “Yoga Boogie” dance video, inspired by the movement and rhythm.

As an artist (and a human being!) Colin is open to exploring new ideas and ways of expressing himself in collaboration with others.

He recently collaborated with the Polaris prize-winning music creator Dan Snaith on his highly-anticipated new Caribou album Suddenly.

Since Colin is a multi-instrumentalist Dan was able to record all kinds of original samples in his London home studio.

Thanks to Colin and the Yoga Chapple for working with me on this fun project!

I hope everyone enjoys it, please leave a comment below!

Social Distancing with Suntwine Yoga!

We might not be in the same room, but we can still stick together!

Most public spaces in our community are closing due to COVID-19 in an unprecedented collective effort to protect everyone from getting ill and/or spreading the virus.

Therefore I am sorry to say that my Suntwine yoga classes will need to be put on hold until future notice.

At the same time, I believe maintaining our physical and mental well-being (to help with coping and boost our immune systems!) is crucial as we confront this challenge together.

In this spirit, I’m offering some streamable video yoga classes for those of you able to participate via the internet.

Here is my first YouTube video for people to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes. I recommend you put on some gentle music (I’m going to figure out how to add music soon!), set up your yoga mat, set the video to Full Screen, and visualize yourself in the calmingly energetic environment of the Yoga Chapple studio (where this was filmed).

Community Yoga at CrossFit Stratford

I always feel grateful whenever I get to share yoga with young people.

Whether I’m teaching yoga as a volunteer in my sons’ classrooms, or leading nightly stretches to a gym-full of kids as part of the EatFit Project in Nunavut, or helping high school students practice mindful and creative movement, I love working with my “young yoginis.”

I also practice yoga with lots of adults every week, including Seniors classes at OneCare.

I can confirm without a doubt: Yoga spans the generations.

A few years ago I was inspired by this fact to create a monthly opportunity for people of all ages to share a fun yoga experience together.

In my family, everyone (which includes my folks, my husband, and our two boys) knows what the last Sunday of the month means: Community Yoga!

As always, a great mix of people joined us at CrossFit Stratford this past Sunday (February 23, 2020) for the usual 3:30pm start. Participants ranged in age from a 6 year old to a 70-something, and included CrossFit members stretching after a week of workouts, some families who attend every month, and curious community members who were trying it out for the very first time.

I usually bring the group together in a circle for some collaborative poses.

It’s amazing how much longer you can hold a Tree Pose when you have a neighbour to lean on when you need support!

Everyone gets to spread out and have all the space they want at CrossFit Stratford’s exercise studio, which makes it the ideal spot for Community Yoga.

CrossFit Stratford also happens to be where you can usually find me during the week working out at 6am!

I started CrossFit three years ago to build my core strength and endurance, and it’s become a major part of my fitness and strength training routine.

I’ve always found yoga and CrossFit to be a good match – the rigorous workouts we put ourselves through in CrossFit are balanced by yoga’s relaxing effects.

The CrossFit Stratford community has always been super supportive, pushing me to achieve my physical goals and also giving me the chance to host Community Yoga in their awesome space every month.

And on top of all that, this coming Saturday (Feb. 29, 2020) CrossFit is raising funds for Wellspring Stratford (the cancer support centre I manage) through its Team Marathon Row!

Community Yoga usually happens on the last Sunday of every month, but please check the Suntwine Yoga class calendar to confirm each month’s date.

I want everyone to be part of the Suntwine Community!

Have you ever attended a yoga session that brought together people of all ages?

I’d love to hear about it, please share your story in the comments!
